In December of 1954, Pastor Charles H. Yates led a small group of people to start what was to become Calvary Baptist Church. Having their first meeting in the home of Pastor Yates on December 19, 1954, the congregation began meeting in the auditorium above the Post Office on the corner of Main Street and Mt. Vernon shortly  thereafter.  On February 10, 1955, a business meeting was held for the purpose of organizing a fundamental independent New Testament Baptist church.  The moderator of the meeting was Dr. Noel Smith, and the closing message was preached by Dr. John Ross. Soon after property was purchased on Smalley Street, and services were held in an old chicken house. As the years went on, Calvary Baptist church built a permanent building, added, remodeled, and added again to their facility. In a time when so many things are changing, it is a comfort to know some things haven’t changed.  Though the buildings look different, and the faces have changed, what began over 60 years ago is continuing today.  And by the grace of God, Calvary Baptist church will continue to function as a Fundamental Independent Baptist Church, desiring to reach Nixa, southwest Missouri, and the world with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen. Ephesians 3:21
